08.05.04 - And Here's To You...
Well a lot of people have been asking me lately what's up with Catapult? What's going on? They want to know why they haven't got a newsletter in months. Is it because it's the summer they ask? Or is it because Catapult is recording a new record? Has one of us secretly started dating Yoko Ono? Well, unfortunately none of those things are correct.

Back in April our good friend, bass player, and 33% of Catapult, Erick announced he would be moving his family to Tennessee. Naturally this came as a bit of a shock to both Karl and myself, seeing as how much we love Erick and his great wife, Kathleen the Merchandise Queen. So on April 22nd, 2004 at Nectar's in Burlington Vermont Erick played his last gig with Catapult. It was truly a very sad day for all those involved. The question then became what to do for both myself and Karl.

We debated getting a new bass player and trying to replace Erick, but we both agreed that would be damn near impossible to do, Erick is just irreplaceable. So we agreed that for the time being Catapult would effectively lay dormant until such time as we found it necessary to resurrect, probably for lots of money. Hey, I can hope, can't I?

So what are Karl and I up to these days? Good question. Karl is currently enjoying his much more relaxing gig as drummer for the Boston-based jazz band the Homeland Security Orchestra. I, on the other-hand, am hard at work on a new solo record. The record features performances by both Karl and Erick, as well as a few songs that Catapult had never had the chance to record.

I'm enjoying my new solo career. It's exciting to be able to write without the pressures of a group. You don't have to think does this fit our sound? Can we play this as a three piece? Etc… I have the freedom to write and experiment in my own way. Of course at some point I'll put together a back up band and go out there and start gigging again, hopefully with Karl at my side still.

Still as I sit in the studio working diligently away, well, not right now anyway, I can't help but miss my Catapult brethren, both near and far. I wish both of them success in whatever it is they choose to do with their life. I also want to say thank you dear listener for being so tremendously supportive over the past few years as Catapult put itself out there for the world to hear. Thank you for your dedication, words of encouragement, and lastly for just being there for us.

On behalf of Erick, Karl, and myself I say a fond farewell as Catapult and ask only that you watch this space for you may never know what will happen.

The End.
