03.05.03 - Don't Touch That Dial
Sometimes I wonder if people enjoy music the same way I do. Not that I'm an authority, but I always preferred to listen to music alone, not as background, but front and center. No talking, no skipping past the "dull parts", everything taken as a whole. I think that's why I like so many types of music that don't seem to make sense. It has to do with a chord change or lyric or some sort of instrumentation that hit perfectly. That's when I realize, "This band may not be my favorite in the world, but they were able to do THAT".
It can be jazz, progressive, oldies, country, indie rock, classic rock, punk, pop, bluegrass, folk,East Indian, hip hop, whatever. I mean honestly, whatever. I've even been moved by music from Thailand. The point is the more prejudices are dropped, (You like that honky-tonk trailer park bullshit don't you?) the more you just think of it as music, and part of something soooo much bigger than we realize.
There really is so much more.
