02.09.03 - Not OK Computer
I just read a very interesting article in "Wired" magazine about the impending collapse of the music industry. The cover showed the old Led Zeppelin l picture of the Hindenburg going down, this time in full color. The flames were in full color anyway. It got me thinking just how much has changed in just 5 years. Everything. Travel fears, sports ripoffs, computer generated special effects that look amazing at first glance, then more fake than ever, more communication than we ever dreamed possible, but no real conversation, trusted clergy, now reduced to tactics left over from the mafia. Blah, blah, blah...
Where is all this leading to? Seriously? A land of unending pornography protected by the first amendment, but say the wrong word, and you're thrown into the meat grinder of political correctness? Smoke free bars, antibacterial soap, and fat free lard as we're waiting for a smallpox attack? People vs animals, religions all thinking their way or the highway, Technology making us all victims of planned obsolescence. All our favorite bands turning into OK Computer mush we're all supposed to hail as a breakthrough.
I've dedicated the rest of my life to finding places left on earth that are......quiet. Once all this clatter is left behind, it's amazing how beautiful everything really is. The things that have never changed, and never will.
Until that damn kid comes to sit beside you with the radio blaring the latest pop band from Sweden. And they sound just like OK Computer. |
